Beer Notes

At 5%, this will probably be the lowest ABV of the challenge.  Unlike the stronger stouts that I have been drinking, there is no booze flavor apparent here.  Vanilla and chocolate are the main flavors here.  It would be the perfect beer to drink all afternoon on a cold winter day (if we ever get one of those in Dallas).

Other Thoughts

Betsy DeVos was confirmed as Education Secretary in the Senate today by a 51-50 vote (Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote).  It’s a worrying development for our public education system as well as the influence of money in politics.  There has never been a less qualified candidate to run our public schools.  She never attended public school, he children never attended public school, she has actively worked to eliminate public schools, and she thinks there should be guns in schools to protect children from grizzly bears.  So how does someone like her get nominated and confirmed for a job that she knows nothing about?  Mainly by being rich.  Filthy rich.  Billionaire rich.  By her own admission, she has donated over $200 million dollars to Republicans.  Records show that she donated nearly $1 million to the Senators that just voted to confirm him.  As a parent of two young children, her potential effect on the public education system worries me.  The fact that any rich person can buy a spot in the Trump administration worries me even more.

Finally, this is unrelated to Betsy DeVos, but WHAT THE HELL is this:

President Donald Trump was confused about the dollar: Was it a strong one that’s good for the economy? Or a weak one?

So he made a call ― except not to any of the business leaders Trump brought into his administration or even to an old friend from his days in real estate. Instead, he called his national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, according to two sources familiar with Flynn’s accounts of the incident.

Spolier alert: Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn didn’t know either.
