This isn’t a bad beer, and it’s not the worst beer that I’ve had in this challenge, but it’s not as good as I would have hoped based on the other reviews that are out there. There is a bit of coffee flavor but overall it tastes a bit thin and it’s just not very exciting. Given that the beer is named after such an interesting character, it’s a bit disappointing.
Grigori Rasputin was a close adviser to the family of Nicolas II (specifically his wife), the last Tsar of Russia. There is so much unknown about his influence that history has portrayed him in many different ways. There are some who say that he had very little political influence and others who wanted to blame him for just about everything that was happening under Tsar Nicolas’ rule. In the end he was assassinated by people loyal to the Tsar, hoping that getting him out of the picture could stabilize the country (spoiler: it didn’t work).
There have been several presidencies where it has been suggested that someone behind the scenes was really calling the shots, and not the president. During the George W Bush presidency, it’s believed that Dick Cheney had great influence over the administration. With the Trump presidency, many are wondering if Steve Bannon is exerting similar influence. It’s worrying, but not too surprising given that the Trump platform is basically mirroring the platform of Breitbart, the website that Bannon formerly ran. Of course, any number of people could be in charge right now because Trump is too busy tweeting and golfing to pay attention.
