I was really excited to try this beer from Rabbit Hole. They have never let me down with their beers, going back to 2014 (when I got the glass pictured above at their brewery). Typically, their beers fit an Alice in Wonderland theme, although they’ve strayed from it here (along with 561, their beer collaboration with American hockey great Mike Modano). But I learned from the label why it didn’t fit the theme. This beer was chosen from the winners at the Bluebonnet Brew-Off Home Brewing competition. This eisbock was brewed by Brian Schoolcraft. Now, with that information, School of Bock really is the only appropriate name. The guitar pick on the bottle was an awesome bonus, and it will be added to my brewery memorabilia. As for the beer, this is a big boozy sweet beer. Raisins and caramel were the dominant flavors and there was a good heat from the alcohol.
Things went nuclear today in the Senate. The Democrats filibustered the nomination of Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, so Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans voted to remove the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees, so they will be able to confirm him tomorrow with a simple majority. There was really no point in having the filibuster if it could be eliminated with a simple majority, but I think the real issue here was that the Republicans refused to even hold hearings on former president Obama’s nominee, and have now essentially stolen a Supreme Court seat for Donald Trump. It’s hard to come up with a way that this fits the will of the American people. It’s a sad day for the United States.
