When I first had the 2014 version of this beer, it was the best beer that I had ever tried from a Texas brewery and certainly in the running for the best beer I ever had. Since then I have tried a lot of great Texas beers, but this one still stands out. The Temptress is a perfect kind of stout that somehow works year round in a state where more than half the year is summer. Everything that makes the Temptress so exceptional is still present here and then it gets amplified with the flavors from the bourbon barrel. It’s still a perfectly smooth beer with light/medium carbonation. The aroma is bourbon and chocolate syrup. The taste is vanilla, milk chocolate and a little bit of coffee with a little bit of oak and bourbon character from the barrel. There is a bit of alcohol burn too, which is nicely warming on the finish. This one isn’t an easy beer to find, other than the week it’s released in December each year, but it’s always worth getting. The 2016 version may be my favorite yet. Honestly, the only negative is the bottle. All the other Temptress versions got amazing printed bottles and this one gets a little crappy sticker label.
100 days in, and I’m still here. The country has taken steps in the wrong direction, as expected, over these days. Important regulations have been weakened, a Supreme Court seat was stolen by Republicans, and our international standing has diminished largely thanks to tweets from the president. But we’ve also learned that Trump and the Republican party really doesn’t have a clear idea how to govern, and they’ve minimized the damage they’ve caused due to incompetence. Obamacare remains, their terrible tax reform plan hasn’t moved much, and I don’t think we’ve laid any bricks on Trump’s wall yet.
This is the end of the challenge and it was a challenge! Having a beer every day for over 3 months is not easy. I got sick twice during that time and beer wasn’t always what I wanted. Because of that, there were a few days where I only had maybe 4-6 ounces of beer (enough to give my thoughts accurately). It was a fun journey and it’s something I will NEVER do again! I do have a lot in store for this blog though. It’s not going away. With the challenge over, don’t expect to see new posts daily, but there will be new content at least once a week and often more than that. I visited a couple breweries in the past few weeks and I’ll have posts about them going up as soon as they are ready. There are some events I’ll be attending and some special beers I’ll be reviewing as well. If anyone read this far, thank you! I appreciate the support. This is the end of the challenge, but just the beginning for this Drink All The Beer. Cheers!
