OK, this post is a bit old at this point. Exactly 2 months old.  I typed it up a long time ago and it just sat here and I’m not even sure why. We were looking for a place to get outside and enjoy a couple beers, and found ourselves visiting an old favorite.  This was our fourth visit to the brewery, although the first visit was to their original location in Farmers Branch.

Atmosphere

(the baby loves to photobomb)

There’s a nice patio with tables and planters full of flowers.  We never sat out there before but the weather was perfect so we did and it’s quite nice, with access to the bar without needing to go in.  If you do go inside though, there are tables both downstairs and upstairs with large windows that provide a view of the production side of the brewery.  We like to sit upstairs as it’s an interesting view of what is going on at the bar down below and it’s typically a little less crowded as well.  The bartenders have been friendly and helpful every time.  I didn’t have any questions for them this time around, but I know they have answered them in the past.

Food

They don’t have an on site kitchen here but they often have food trucks.  On this day they had pizza from That’s Amore.  The pizza was great and if you happen to see their food truck be sure to pick up a slice.  There’s a good rotation of trucks though, so just check their website before stopping by to see if they have a truck there.

Beer

Since this was my fourth visit to the brewery, and on top of that I’ve had their beer all over when they were distributing outside the brewery, there isn’t much from them I hadn’t tried.  Fortunately, the beers I tried this time around were hits.

I started out ordering their Black IPA and Imperial Red IPA.  Michelle usually sticks to IPAs so I wasn’t sure which one she would want.  We both tried them out and she snagged the Imperial Red.  This one was a hit with both of us.  It was strong with a big grapefruit and floral taste and a bitter finish.  I wish I could have had the whole glass!

The Black IPA wasn’t as impressive but it was very good.  I tasted notes of pine and plum and there was a much lighter bitter finish than with the Imperial Red.  There was some roastiness as well.  I wouldn’t get this one again if the red is on tap, but it’s still a good beer.

Finally, I tried out their Tart Cherry Berliner Weisse.  It was strong, I think, for the style but I really enjoyed it.  There was a slight lemony tartness at first which fades away to the flavor of cherry and a nice sweetness.  It was the perfect drink to finish out the day and joined the Imperial Red as one of my favorites that I’ve ever had from Grapevine.

Summary

I’m sure a lot of local beer fans have been out to Grapevine at some point, because they’ve been around for quite a while now.  But now that their beer is pretty well cleaned off the shelves at your local beer store, this is the only place to try them out.  And it’s worth going back for some of their small batch Brewers Reserve and Taproom Series releases.  Now I just need to get back there when my favorite, their Tropical Double IPA, is on tap!
